GENERAL INFORMATION

ACCESSIBLE DAILY DOG WALK DATA
Walks are recorded daily using a GPS Garmin watch and Poocheria clients are always welcome to access this data, along with photographs and daily sms updates on request.

LIVE DOG TRACKER
Whilst dogs receive undivided attention and are walked on leads unless otherwise specified by the owner (which is always carefully evaluated beforehand). Poocheria clients can also have a little extra peace of mind in knowing that their dogs can have a Tractive GPS comfortably attached to their dog's collar on request. The wonders of technology!

MEDICAL CARE
All pets veterinary information is kept on file so that in the unlikely event of a cat or dog requiring medical assistance whilst under Poocheria’s care and supervision, they can be treated immediately by their usual vet. Or in the unlikely event of an emergency we have a standing arrangement in place with Chapelfield Vets. Medication if required can also be administered to pets as directed by the owner.
As an experienced and competent pet care provider, Jo is canine first aid trained and monitors the dogs health and behaviour on a daily basis.

SEPARATION ANXIETY
Dog daycare provides your canine companion with the physical activity, socialisation and supervision they need. Poocheria’s well-run dog daycare offers many advantages for dogs and pet owners who work all day and don't want their dogs to be alone. Dog daycare alleviates boredom and loneliness, and offers a safe, interactive and fun, cage-free outlet for high-energy dogs.

PUBLIC LIABILITY INSURANCE
Poocheria is a fully insured service and covers all animals in our care at all times, including outdoor walks, dog day care and in the owners home. Jo also has a clear DBS certificate (government criminal record check).

GROUP DOG WALKING POLICY
Poocheria adheres strictly to the government licensing regulations and DEFRA’s professional dog walking guidelines, walking a maximum of six dogs at any one time, and always based on careful assessment of the dogs, the environment, and the day’s conditions. In practice, most walks are made up of smaller groups to ensure the perfect balance of energy and compatibility, and Jo only ever walks the full six when every dog has been carefully assessed for that specific route and setting. When needed, she also works alongside additional, trusted walking support so that dogs can be split into smaller, well-matched groups.
Before joining any group walk, every dog is individually assessed for temperament, recall, and sociability to ensure they’re a good fit within the group. Only dogs with the owners written consent and a reliable recall are walked off-lead, and every dog wears both their owner’s ID tag and a Poocheria tag. For additional peace of mind, AirTags and trackers are also attached to dogs when off-lead to enhance safety and tracking.
Each walk is thoughtfully planned - the location is assessed along with, terrain, weather, and group dynamics. All routes are chosen to match the dogs’ abilities and personalities, and Jo always keeps a close eye on the group, pre-empting potential issues such as off-lead dogs, wildlife, or environmental hazards. If something doesn’t feel right, we would change direction or location.
The vehicle is fully equipped for safe transport (including a pet first aid kit) with every dog travelling securely in a harness attached to a seatbelt. Jo ensures the dogs are warm, comfortable, and safely separated during transit to prevent any jostling or play. All collars, harnesses, and leads are checked before each walk to make sure they’re correctly fitted and in good condition.
Essentials are always carried, including poo bags, treats, water, antibacterial gel, a personal safety alarm and a phone, plus the walks are logged on a GPS app for reference.
Adverse Weather Policy: Weather conditions are continually monitored, and in hot weather, walks are rescheduled, shortened, or moved to shaded routes, and water is provided throughout. If temperatures exceed 24°C, walks may be replaced with cooler indoor enrichment, and dogs are never walked above 30°C. In cold or wet conditions, plans are adapted accordingly, ensuring dogs are appropriately dressed, avoiding icy or unsafe terrain, and offering indoor alternatives if it drops below 1°C.
After muddy or wet walks, dogs are rinsed and dried before being returned home clean and comfortable. Jo is also vigilant about courtesy to others — dogs are kept under control around pedestrians and other dogs, and she always communicate with fellow walkers to ensure safe and positive interactions.
In the unlikely event of an emergency, there are clear written procedures in place and a standing arrangement with a local veterinary practice. Jo's first aid training ensures that she can respond quickly and appropriately (seeking public assistance where required) while getting the dog to professional care without delay.
Each walk is run with structure, care, and attention to detail - ensuring every dog enjoys a happy, healthy, and safe outdoor adventure.

ASSESSMENT AND TASTER SESSIONS
Meet & Greet and Taster sessions are an essential part of Poocheria’s daycare process. They are not designed as immediate integration, but rather as structured assessments, and are a requirement under local licensing regulations. These sessions allow observation of how a new dog interacts within the established group and help evaluate whether the current dynamic supports everyone’s comfort, safety, and wellbeing. This is a key part of Poocheria’s care standards and ensures all dogs can enjoy a safe, positive environment.
Each group of dogs is unique, and not all dogs will naturally blend in, particularly when factors like adolescence, hormones, or individual temperament come into play. Sometimes, a dog may not be suited to a particular group at that time.
During the taster session, observations focus on social communication, behaviour, energy levels, stress responses, and how well a dog responds to redirection and rest periods. These assessments also allow identification of whether additional support, training, or gradual introductions may be needed before a dog can safely join the group on a regular basis.
The aim is always to set each dog up for success - whether that means joining regular daycare now, returning for reassessment later, or exploring alternative care arrangements better suited to the dog’s current needs.
